A Bloody Trident

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is an AWESOME movie!

If anyone likes Greek Mythology carried over into the modern world, this is the show to watch. I've yet to see a fantasy movie with as much reference to the modern world as this one! Of course, this may be due to the fact that I DON"T watch movies often. The whole moderness actually makes it stand out from the other fantasy shows I've watched (eg. Harry Potter).

I liked the whole concept although since it was a movie it had to be presented in brief which made the movie a bit to fast for my taste as there wasn't enough time for character and skill development before the whole action begins (which makes people wonder 'Is Percy Jackson a natural fighter with a sword?').

Maybe if this were a series there'd be more chances for development and everything won't be too rushed.

The computer graphics are fantastic, other than the ones that make humans seem as if they've been grabbed by horribly large monsters (those scenes looked particularly fake). The monsters looked, real enough and the mixed breeds? The best! I especially liked the effects of rushing water swirling to the command of Percy Jackson, but I kept wondering if the actor's ever felt stupid doing the grand gestures without any effects. I know I will.

The romance was...extremely unnecessary. It didn't play any particularly important role in the plot which meant that it was, frankly, a bit redundant. If they wanted to include romance, make it important, if not leave it out completely. Look, people actually do get tired when the protagonist falls in love with his beautiful comrade and they hook up in the end without any rhyme or reason.

Also, what's with making the African American kid a side-kick who seems to be there just for the kicks? Of course, he actually does make some significant contribution, but nothing that can't be done by someone else (eg. the protagonist's comrade whom he later hooks up with). Gee, can't they just break this whole thing? I mean, Danny Phantom's like that, American Dragon: Jake Long's also like that (but the protagonist DIDN"T fall in love with his female comrade). I think many people can name shows with this kind of trio.

That aside, I can't complain about the whole 'son of Poseidon' concept because that actually appeals to me since I've always dreamed of having some weird elemental powers (or really, any kind of super power will do, just not something like superstrength which isn't very cool at all).

Overall, this show's quite like Harry Potter (well duh, it's directed by the guy who did 'Philosopher's Stone') but with a Greek mythological twist to it which I thoroughly enjoy. Though concepts like 'half-blood' are similar they actually have a slightly different implication, so that's alright.

You should definitely watch this show.

I watched it today at 16:10 with my family. It ended at 18:20, and I just love that very Medusa ending. ;)
